In spite of the recent realization that it would be necessary for me to retrench*, particularly where groceries are concerned, I couldn't restrain myself from spending a ridiculous amount of money on a boxful of genuine British tea and biscuits (and a wee bag of
crisps savoury potato-based snacks for good measure). My order arrived this morning.
Hello, my name is Deleilan and I am a Britophile.
*such a good word, retrench, yet sadly very little-used; it also reminds me of my favourite Jane Austen novel, Persuasion
P.S. I ordered from this online shop
13 little note(s):
I didn't know that about you! Interesting selection too: no Custard Creams? Fruit Shortcake is a rather spartan sort of a biscuit, you know; one step along from Garibaldis, always the last one left in the biscuit tin. And Hula Hoops are definitely NOT crisps! Although they are a little addictive.....
To eat a Bourbon properly, you have to nibble all the biscuit off one side, then eat the filling..... also nice dipped in tea!
My Toronto friend adores Jelly Babies. I'll stop now; after all, you have to retrench.....
Sadly, both brands of Custard Creams available from the website contain whey powder - NOT VEGAN! I dream of finding vegan Jammie Dodgers and Liquorice Allsorts some day... I miss them so!
My apologies for calling Hula Hoops crisps... Savoury snacks?
So that was the much awaited package! Nice! I can see the scene from here: you, huddled on the couch with a good British novel (or watching a British movie or TV show), a cup of tea and a plate of British delights... Enjoy! :)
Yes, that's exactly how I'll be spending the rest of the winter! Now, which package to open first...
oh wow, that's lots of biscuits! good to have a stock filled with your favourites..:)
happy weekend!
Ginger Snaps are indeed delicious , an excellent choice. And there's something very "moreish" about a Digestive with a smidgin of honey ( very sweet though ! ) .
We all deserve treats !!
I do love Ginger Snaps, ginger in general... and ginger cats! :-)
Hmmm, I'll try a bit of maple syrup or agave nectar on my digestives (I don't eat honey) - thanks for the tip!
I feel the same way about packaged Indian tea biscuits.
How many does a girl need?
Ten packets, I discovered today.
There is much wisdom in your words, Shula!
hehe, I once had to have a care package from Australia when I lived in the UK. And yes, retrench, an awesome word, from an awesome book.
Ginger snaps! Yes please! Must now tear self away from screen and see what sweet bites I can find at home here. I hope I'm lucky.
